Spanish countryside

The powerful combination of walking and coaching in this open, bright landscape will help you to create the space you need in your mind to open up to new creativity and possibilities.

We will be working on your self understanding and goals before the walks, and the very motion of walking will help you to process your thoughts. You will also have the opportunity to talk to your coach and other members of your group if you choose.

Taking time out, in a new inspiring environment gives you the opportunity to rejuvenate and re-create yourself, and your life and your business.

How does it work?

As a coach I will be helping the guests to work out their goals and help them to make progress towards them.

The coaching will be a mixture of one to one and group work – some will be at our base and some will be on the walks.

Each person will be working on their individual goals and sharing their progress with the group and the coach.

What will you take away?

Spanish countrysideYou will create a new energy, a compelling vision, and powerful motivation to take home with you. You will gain a new perspective, the clarity you have found on your journey, the energy and motivation to make changes in your life, and an inspiring action plan to make it happen - step by step.

Take the time to think without constraints, to understand yourself better, open your mind to new possibilities, to get clarity on what you REALLY want, and you will leave much better equipped to create it.

How fit must you be?

We will be walking for 4-5 hours a day with regular stops for drinks and lunch and also to do coaching exercises. Most of the walking is on gently undulating paths with a few short steep climbs which are optional.

About Castell de Castells

The peaceful village of Castell de Castells is tucked into the mountains, 30km and 50 years away from the hustle and bustle of the Mediterranean coast. It is situated on the Iberian Peninsular between Alicante to the south and Valencia to the north.

Spanish countryside

The rugged limestone mountains, forming a triangle around the village, reach over 1500 meters and are criss-crossed with ancient Mozarabic trails and dry river beds. On top of the majestic Pena de Castellet, at over 1000 metres, are the remains of the Moorish Castle from which the village gets its name.

Spanish countrysideOn the lower slopes, olive and almond trees, together with some grapevines, bathe the sun drenched terraces, many of them still tended today by old fashioned methods handed down through generations.

The virgin olive oil produced in this area is one of the finest in Spain and is said to contribute to the longevity of the local octogenarians.

Castell de Castells is the perfect base from which to set off on our mountain walks. Some of the walks start from the village itself, others require a short drive in an air conditioned bus.

In March the average temperature is 21-24 degrees C and we will be enjoying the beautiful spring flowers, shrubs and herbs as we walk.

We will stay at Pension Castells which has been selected for inclusion in the much respected “Charming Small Hotels” guide. Our hosts are Sarah and Gary Neal who run the pension and also are our qualified walking guides.

Spanish countrysidePension Castells is an enchanting guest house. The rooms are comfortable in traditional Spanish style. A large wood burning stove is the homely centrepiece of the lounge. There is a small in-house bar that offers a good selection of wines, beers and spirits which can be enjoyed in the lounge or on the sunny roof terrace, a superb relaxation area with mountain views.

We will have some of our meals at the Pension, home cooked Spanish and International cuisine and we will also enjoy the local dishes in a variety of restaurants.

Guests will arrive on the Thursday morning, returning home on the Monday evening.

Our days will be spent combining walking and coaching, with time put aside for other social activities and relaxation.

We will meet in the mornings for a continental breakfast at the Pension Castells followed by a coaching session. The format of the sessions will vary, however, each one will introduce a new topic to think about either individually or working in small groups. This creates new ideas which can then be developed on our walks, when you will have the chance to chat more or simply to walk and think .

The walks will be relaxed and fun, lasting about 4-5 hours with stops along the way.

We will have lunch at a spot chosen by our guides Sarah and Gary, who are British BMC Walking group leader trained, and have a sound knowledge of the area. They both hold current British rescue emergency care certificates.

We will explore a different route each day, with walks following the undulations of the mountains in the surrounding “Marina Alta” region and including a diverse range of scenery.

We will be walking mostly on forest tracks and Mozarabic trails (ancient Moorish trading routes between villages) amongst olive and almond groves and through breathtakingly beautiful limestone mountain landscapes. Along the way we will stop to admire old caves, neveras (Moorish ice houses) and occasionally drink from ancient wells and fonts which are fed from fresh underground springs. The trails are pretty much our own. Apart from the odd shepherd and olive farmer we often see nothing other than fantastic views and any wildlife that may be active during the day.

In contrast to these mountain walks, a short trip on the mini-bus takes us to the coast, where the breathtaking views and sea-air offer a fresh perspective.

At the end of the walks, guests have said they feel exhilarated, and bursting with new, creative ideas. There will be time in the afternoon to relax at The Pension with tea and cakes, and some free time before dinner.

We have also included the option to have a rejuvenating spa treatment, or go for an exciting bike ride on one of the afternoons.
